Jake Buehler

Silverdale, WA

Jake Buehler is a 2016 MSc graduate in Zoology at the Department of Biology at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, where he spent a great deal of time thinking about island endemism in coral reef fishes. He got an earlier start in the sciences at the University of Oregon for his BSc in biology, with a specialization in ecology and evolutionary biology. Jake can be found hiking in the middle of nowhere, working on his landscape photography, snorkeling, SCUBA diving, or fervently assembling biology-oriented sentences on a screen in the wee hours of the morning, and then putting them all up on his blog. Population biology in general is his forte, with key interests in evolution, speciation, and the development of endemism in tropical marine ecosystems. He also has interests in science advocacy and communication, political theory, Pacific Asian human geography and history, 'speculative' biology, fiction writing, the evolutionary biology and cultural history of capsicum peppers, and landscape photography. He also has a perpetual, neophilic gravitation towards travel.
